Throughout the halls of the hospital
Today I was walking through the halls of one of the hospitals that I manage when I heard the voice of a child crying. As I approached one of the rooms of medical care I could see a nurse preparing an injection to apply it in the small arm of that child. The little boy crying asked the nurse: “Do you really have to give me another shot? I do not feel sick, look at me I’m fine please don’t inject me again, it really hurts, I beg you please.” The little boy pleaded with tears for the nurse to not hurt his little arm again, but the nurse replied with much love and tenderness: “I know that right now you do not feel sick, but this vaccine will produce antibodies inside of you that you will need within some years so you don’t get sick of severe sicknesses. The pain that you will suffer with this vaccine does not compare to the pain you can suffer if I do not give it to you. This vaccine will allow you to run and live like everyone else, I know that right now you do not understand and maybe you’ll hate me but one day you are going to thank me sweetie.” When coming up the medical center’s elevators to my office I started thinking about how many times we ask God Why I have to suffer again? Why you have to hit me again? Why do you have to hurt me again? Why do I have to carry through adversity again? And the reality is that when we are in pain we cannot understand and many times we begin to think that God has something against us, that we are not in God’s favorites list, or that God has forgotten about us. The reality of the matter is that God must pierce us through the pain because the pain produces principles and values in us. Principles that lead us to the success of tomorrow, that pain produces strength within us to help us withstand the attacks of our enemies and the adversities of life. Through pain people are transformed into humbler, more grateful, and more mature individuals but it also makes them stronger, smarter, and wiser. If you are going through adversity and pain today is because there is greatness and strength that is being produced within you. Perhaps, just like the boy could not see that vaccine antibodies, you cannot see the size of your greatness and strength is being generated through the pain you are living but is forming a giant inside of you. Resist champion! Resist because you were born to win! Resist not give up! Resist forever resist!
